My photography has a really simplistic side to it. I like to take pictures of things that people would walk by everyday and not notice the interesting part of it or the beauty of that thing. There are so many things that people don’t appreciate and take for granted. I like to take pictures that capture the simple beauty of an object that people might not think is interesting looking. I like to use depth of field and leading lines a lot in my pictures but I also like a good crisp strait picture that’s simple.

When I take pictures I look for things that are simple but have character to them, take a brick wall for example. Most people walk by them without even thinking of the texture and color of it, they just walk on by. I would try to take a picture that adds character to that brick wall and will make people look at it every time they walk by so that they can see the beauty of it too.

I think that going out and trying to take a picture of just a certain thing will mess up what you’re trying to do because you miss a lot of other things. Does that make sense? What I mean is that if you go out looking for just one type of thing to take a picture of, you miss out on all the other interesting things there are.

I think that the process you go through to take a picture affects how your pictures look tremendously. When I go out to take a picture I don’t go looking for just one thing in particular. My pictures have simple, elegant beauty to them in my opinion and I hope people feel the same way about my pictures when they look at them as I did when I took them.

My story is about snowboarding and my awesome Korean exchange student. I find snowboarding irresistible. I think it’s the best thing ever invented in the history of snow sports. I enjoy snowboarding and pretty much anything that has to do with snow. I love taking pictures of scenery and things in the snow. Trees that are covered with a layer of snow are just priceless to me. It’s amazing how God made such awesome things to enjoy the exquisiteness of them.

View of Mt. Hood

I’ve been snowboarding for 5 years and I love taking pictures of the trees and runs below me when I’m on the lift. To me an example of an absolutely priceless shot in the snow is when you get a shot of someone turning with the spray of the powder flying up where the sun is shining through the snow and there is a mountain in the background. I’ve always wanted to take a picture like this and I hope that someday I will get the opportunity to. I have to admit that I’ve been trying to take that picture for as long as I’ve been snowboarding.

Nice clear day with no one else there

There has been a few times (very rarely) that I have gone snowboarding and not have fun. The only reason was because it was raining and I got sopping wet. I took a few cool looking pictures though. That was about the most fun that I got out of that day.

A day at skibowl in the rain

The first Snowboard-like-invention was built in 1929 by M.J. “Jack” Burchett. He cut out a plank of plywood and secured his feet with a length of clothesline and horse reins. Thus the first “Snowboard” was invented. A man named Jake Burton Carpenter started making snowboards out of fiberglass. He also added bindings to help control the board easier. In the 1980′s they started adding steel edges to the sides of the snowboard. They also invented bindings with high backs to help control when snowboarding on hard packed snow.

That’s some of the history behind snowboarding. To me snowboarding isn’t just a sport; it’s a way of getting out doors and enjoying Gods creation. It’s an awesome hobby too. The only set back is that it can get a little expensive at times.

My family has an exchange student living at our house for this whole school year. He is one of the coolest Asian kids I know. He’s from South Korea and he’s about 6’ 2”.

Jeong

He brought a lot of awesome things with him and I can’t wait to take him snowboarding. He’s been a few times in Korea with his uncle that he says is really good. Jeong (that’s his name) has the coolest parents ever. They give him lots of money to get everything that he needs or wants. His parents both work for major companies in Korea. His way of life is so much different than ours. Everything and every little detail can be respectful and disrespectful. It was almost awkward when he first got here because he didn’t know how to react when certain things happened. He also couldn’t understand English very well but now he’s amazing at it. Jeong is one of the funniest kids I know. I don’t know if he’s trying to be funny or if he just doesn’t understand some things but he is so funny sometimes. He has the funniest one liners that will make everybody burst out in laughter.

I can’t wait to take the kid snowboarding. He freaks out at the littlest things like frost on the ground this morning. He thought it was snow. It was awesome. He got so excited and the first thing that came out of his mouth was “Cody! Snow!”. This snowboarding season should be a blast with jeong.
